Passion Fruit Spritz

Passion Fruit Spritz

The first day of summer calls for a classic Spritz enriched with one of my favorite tropical fruits: passion fruit. The Passion Fruit Spritz is the perfect drink to celebrate the start of summer. It is refreshing, fizzy and with a sweet-sour tropical taste that complements the Aperol. Last but not least, its bright color shouts summer, sun, energy and fun!

I already shared with you how much Rob and I love Spritz as it has marked the start of our weekends and our holidays over the years.

And here in Dubai, it is definitely summer already, and this weekend calls for a drink that makes us feel like we are on a tropical holiday!

I must confess that recently I have been quite passionate about passion fruit, which I basically lived during our last holiday in Southeast Asia.

I usually eat it with natural yogurt or I pair it with mango because of the contrast between the sweetness of the mango and the sweet-sourness of the passion fruit. Lately, I am also perfecting the preparation of a jam.

How to make Passion Fruit Spritz

For the Passion Fruit Spritz, I stayed true to the original Aperol Spritz recipe as much as I could. The classic Aperol Spritz formula is 3:2:1. For this recipe, we use 3 units of prosecco, 1.5 of Aperol, 1.5 of passion fruit pulp and 1 of sparkling water. Fresh passion fruit is preferable, but if you can’t find it then you can use packaged passion fruit juice.

This cocktail is super easy to make in just 3 quick steps:

First, scoop out the pulp from the passion fruit, put it in a blender and add the Aperol. Blend this mix until smooth.

Take a red wine glass, add the ice cubes, then pour the Prosecco. Then add the Aperol Passion Fruit Mix and finally top with sparkling water.

Stir your Spritz and garnish with a slice of fruit. You can use the classic orange garnish, or you can get more tropical with pineapple or mango, or even try something like kiwi.

Happy Summer!
