About me

Ciao! My name is Laura, and I am the author behind Italian Kitchen Confessions. This is my little corner of the internet, where I share my secrets about cooking Italian food and my tips related to recipes learned traveling around the world.

My first confession: who I am.
Let me tell you a bit more about me. I grew up in northern Italy, in the beautiful vineyard area of Treviso, famous for Prosecco. I lived and studied in Milan and Paris and in 2010 I relocated to Dubai for a job opportunity, where I still live. Dubai has been a lucky place for me, as that is where I met Rob, my husband. When I am not working or cooking, I enjoy travelling, reading and practicing Ashtanga yoga.

My second confession: who inspired me.
I learned how to cook by helping out my parents. For me, the time spent in the kitchen was the most fascinating part of my day. My father inspired me to get to know food and ingredients, while my mother was more into composing the menus and organizing the table decor. The other person that inspires me today is my husband, with whom I share two strong passions (among many others):  planning our next meal (sometimes with a wine pairing…) and travelling to experience new cultures and taste new flavors.
I have to say that he often pushes my boundaries (and patience…) to play with different combinations of ingredients, but we inevitably end up having fun.

My third confession: my food philosophy.
I grew up in a family that embraces the classic Mediterranean diet, a variety of fresh and seasonal food, cereal and grains, along with an excellent combination of animal and plant based proteins. I eat almost everything, and I think indulging from time to time is good for the body and the soul. I am also passionate about trying recipes from cuisines that are different from what I was raised on. During my trips, I always have a list of dishes and restaurants to try – I like to savor the unique flavors among different cultures.

Laura is sitting on steps in one of her travels.

I hope you will continue coming back and more importantly, I hope the recipes will bring you joy and fun moments to share with your loved ones!
